My Mom

I love the traditions that my mom has taught me through the years.  My favorite, though, I hated when I was young.  Every year my dad took us to buy a corsage for her for mother's day.  That isn't the bad part.  She made us were a rose!!!  I wasn't a mother!!!!  I was always embarrassed by the questions and the attention that I got from all my friends and people at church.  As my mom put the flower on my dress...(I wore dresses back then... that tradition didn't catch on.)  She would tell me how when she was growing up, you wore a white rose if your mother had passed away and you wore a red rose if your mother was still living.  You do this to honor her.  Not until I was older did I understand why this was important to my mom.  Her mother passed away so young.  As I grew up I understood the importance of honoring mothers.  I love to honor my mom with a corsage most years...but I also love being a part of her honoring her mother... my grandmother, each year.  I now force my kids to wear a rose on mother's day. :)  I have to say... they don't love it.  I wear a small rose to honor my mom... not a corsage.  I pray one day that they will understand why and will honor their mamaw, someday... not soon, but someday... and will be a part in lifting up the role of mothers that God has placed in this world.

What makes you different, makes you special.

We were at Seth's last soccer game today.  During the devotional about being different, Lily walked from across he field to come over to her brother to put her arm around him. "What makes you different, makes you special."

Seth: Mom! Can I have an Oreo or a Popsicle?  (Waves hand in a circle in the air and whispers "magic")

Me to a Friend:  Yea, I think I'm going to take Seth in to have his speech evaluated.

Lily: What does having your "speech evaluated" mean?

Me: Just to see if they can help Seth with his words...

Lily:  You mean help him not use inappropriate language?

Me: .....no....

Ian:  You got your hair cut...

Me: Yeah!  You like it?!

Ian: It's good..... Is that what you wanted to hear?

Me:You don't like it?

Ian: It just.... it just looks a lot like this picture.

Me: You mean the one I took to her to show her how I wanted it cut?

Seth: Can we go in yet?

Me: No, they aren't letting kids in yet.

Seth: Because they hate kids?

Me:.......no.
